Smbataberd is an impregnable fortress of the 5th century, surrounded on three sides by steep slopes descending into a deep gorge where the Artabuink and Yeghegis rivers flow. On this route, the amazing nature and ancient architectural monuments complement each other perfectly and make the route truly memorable.

Why should I go on this hike
The magical nature of Vayots Dzor and the magical view of the top of Mount Gayledzor

Steep cliffs where you can see bezoar mountain goats - some of the best climbers in the world

Smbataberd fortress, where you can walk along the fortress walls and towers and feel the atmosphere of antiquity

We will stop at the fortress to make coffee and have lunch with a great view

A walk through the old streets of the mountain village of Yeghegis and the unique Warrior Church

We will visit Tsaghkhats Kar Monastery complex, towering over the Yeghegis River
Visiting one of the oldest Jewish cemeteries
At the end of the hike, we will have a delicious dinner with hot soup, snacks, sweets and tea made from mountain herbs

Before leaving for Yerevan, we will stop at a local winery and taste Armenian wines
