We will go on a mineralogical hike in the foothills of the Pambak Range, not far from Meghradzor. Along the way, we will see mountain peaks, alpine meadows with grazing herds of cows and sheep, and of course, majestic mountains. The group will be led by an experienced geologist, so you definitely won’t get bored on the trail: he will tell you many interesting facts about the geological history of Armenia, answer your questions, and you will also learn where and how gold is mined in Armenia.
Why should I go on this hike
An old railway tunnel running under the mountains of the Pambak Range, unused since the Soviet era.
We will descend into the skarn zone of the Tezhler intrusion and find crystals of epidote and garnet (andradite) formed there.
Collecting mineral samples: rocks with zircon inclusions and luminescent sodalite that glows under ultraviolet light.
A walk along a picturesque trail by the Meghradzor River.
Beautiful green meadows with herds of horses, sheep, and cows grazing.
