Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. With We Hike Armenia, you’ll experience this journey in comfort and safety. Our local team in Tanzania, together with guide Ivan, takes care of everything — from airport pickup to your departure home — so you can fully focus on the climb.

We ascend via the Lemosho Route — one of the most scenic and premium routes on Kilimanjaro. The program lasts 8 days and includes proper acclimatization. The route begins on the western side of the mountain, away from crowded trails, and offers stunning views of the Shira Plateau. The Lemosho Route is considered one of the best for acclimatization on the mountain.

Throughout the climb, you’ll be accompanied by professional guides, porters, and cooks, with overnight stays in comfortable tents.

Mount Kilimanjaro, standing at 5,895 meters, is the highest peak in Africa and is located in Tanzania. It consists of three volcanic cones: Kibo (5,895 m), Mawenzi (5,149 m), and Shira (3,962 m). The distance between the summits of Kibo and Mawenzi is approximately 11 kilometers. Climbing Kilimanjaro is part of both the “Seven Summits” and the “Seven Volcanoes” challenges.

We will follow the Lemosho Route — it starts on the quiet western side of Kilimanjaro and offers the best chances for a successful ascent thanks to its gradual climb.

Climbing Program

Day 1. Arrival

✓ Group arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO), tour participants greeted by a representative of the We Hike Armenia team and transferred to the hotel.
✓ Check-in at a cozy hotel with comfortable rooms, hot water, a swimming pool, internet, and friendly staff.
✓ Evening briefing by the We Hike Armenia team, gear check, and discussion of the climbing route.

Overnight elevation: 850 m

Day 1. Arrival

✓ Group arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO), tour participants greeted by a representative of the We Hike Armenia team and transferred to the hotel.
✓ Check-in at a cozy hotel with comfortable rooms, hot water, a swimming pool, internet, and friendly staff.
✓ Evening briefing by the We Hike Armenia team, gear check, and discussion of the climbing route.

Day 2. Transfer to Londorossi Gate

✓ After breakfast, we head to the western entrance of Kilimanjaro National Park – the Londorossi Gate.
✓ The transfer takes approximately 3–4 hours.
✓ After registration and obtaining permits, we begin the ascent to 3,500 m.
✓ Next is an easy trek to Shira 2 Camp.
✓ Overnight in tents at 3,850 m.

Distance: ~10 km
Elevation gain: 600 m
Camp altitude: 3,850 m

Hiking time: 4–5 hours

Day 2. Transfer to Londorossi Gate

✓ After breakfast, we head to the western entrance of Kilimanjaro National Park – the Londorossi Gate.
✓ The transfer takes approximately 3–4 hours.

✓ After lunch, we descend to Barranco Camp (~3,900 m), with views of the famous Barranco Wall, impressive in its scale.
✓ The next day, we will climb the wall via a specially designed trail.
✓ Overnight in tents at Barranco Camp (~3,900 m).

Distance (hiking): 10–12 km
Elevation gain: ascent 700 m to Lava Tower, descent 700 m to Barranco
Camp altitude: 3,900 m

Hiking time: 6–8 hours

Day 3. Trek from Shira 2 Camp → Lava Tower → Barranco Camp
✓ After breakfast, we begin the ascent to a key point of the route — Lava Tower (~4,600 m).
✓ Throughout the day, the trail includes a mix of ascents and descents.
✓ Lunch at camp at حوالي 4,600 m.
✓ After lunch, we descend to Barranco Camp (~3,900 m), with views of the famous Barranco Wall, impressive in its scale.
✓ The next day, we will climb the wall via a specially designed trail.
✓ Overnight in tents at Barranco Camp (~3,900 m).

Distance (hiking): 10–12 km
Elevation gain: ascent 700 m to Lava Tower, descent 700 m to Barranco
Camp altitude: 3,900 m

Hiking time: 6–8 hours

Day 4. Trek from Barranco Camp → Karanga Camp
✓ Early wake-up, breakfast, and the start of the ascent up the Barranco Wall. The climb is not technically difficult and takes about 1 hour. After reaching the top, there’s time to rest and take photos with views of Kibo.
✓ The route then continues with a more challenging trek to Karanga Camp (~4,000 m), with a mix of ascents and descents.
✓ Upon arrival at camp, a hot lunch is provided.
✓ After a couple of hours, we do an acclimatization hike toward Barafu Camp, gaining ~200 m in elevation, then return to Karanga Camp.
✓ Overnight in tents at ~3,995 m.

Distance (hiking): 7–9 km
Elevation gain: 500 m
Camp altitude: 3,995 m

Hiking time: ~6 hours

Day 4. Trek from Barranco Camp → Karanga Camp
✓ Early wake-up, breakfast, and the start of the ascent up the Barranco Wall. The climb is not technically difficult and takes about 1 hour. After reaching the top, there’s time to rest and take photos with views of Kibo.
✓ The route then continues with a more challenging trek to Karanga Camp (~4,000 m), with a mix of ascents and descents.

✓ After settling into camp, we have a hearty lunch, followed by a final briefing and rest.
✓ The remaining time is best spent resting and sleeping in preparation for the ночной summit attempt.
✓ Overnight in tents at 4,670 m.

Camp altitude: 4,670 m

Rest time: the entire afternoon and evening

Day 5. Trek from Karanga Camp → Barafu Camp
✓ After breakfast, we head to Barafu Camp (~4,670 m), the high camp from which the ночной ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) begins.
✓ After settling into camp, we have a hearty lunch, followed by a final briefing and rest.
✓ The remaining time is best spent resting and sleeping in preparation for the ночной summit attempt.
✓ Overnight in tents at 4,670 m.

Day 6. Summit attempt of Uhuru Peak and descent to Millennium Camp
✓ Early breakfast and departure from Barafu Camp around midnight for the summit attempt.
✓ Ascent along the slope, then along the crater rim to reach the highest point of Mount Kilimanjaro — Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the highest point in Africa.
✓ During the climb, guides will provide hot tea, first aid, and oxygen support, while closely monitoring your condition. If needed, they will assist with carrying your backpack.
✓ Return to Barafu Camp for a 2-hour rest, followed by descent to Millennium Camp (~3,900 m).
✓ Overnight in tents at ~3,900 m.

Distance (hiking): 12 km
Elevation gain: ascent 1,225 m, descent 2,000 m
Camp altitude: 3,900 m

Hiking time: 10–14 hours (including night ascent and descent)

Day 6. Summit attempt of Uhuru Peak and descent to Millennium Camp

✓ Presentation of commemorative certificates and transfer to the hotel.

Day 7. Descent from Millennium Camp to Mweka Gate
