Legends of Mt. Ara
and the cave monastery of Tsaghkevank
Mount Araler is located in the Kotayk region between the rivers Hrazdan and Kasagh. Its height is 2,605 meters. According to legend, the mountain was named after the Armenian king Ara Geghetsik (the Handsome), who fought against the Assyrian queen Semiramis and perished in battle. Legend has it that Mount Araler represents the body of King Ara.
