Extinct Volcano Gutanasar

Gutanasar - a volcanic mountain located in the Kotayk province, near the village of Fantan. Beneath the mountain lies the Surb Astvatsatsin Church. Gutanasar is known as one of the primary sources of obsidian found at archaeological sites throughout Armenia. Nearby settlements include Fantan and Alapars, and this volcano stands as a prominent feature in the volcanic region of the Geghama Mountains.
At the summit of Gutanasar, visitors are treated to breathtaking views of the Geghama Mountains, with slopes adorned in colorful flowers. Additionally, a small lake forms in the spring and summer, adding to the natural beauty of the area.

At the summit of Gutanasar, visitors are treated to breathtaking views of the Geghama Mountains, with slopes adorned in colorful flowers. Additionally, a small lake forms in the spring and summer, adding to the natural beauty of the area.
What to expect on this trip:
- We will visit the famous solidified black lava of Gutanasar volcano and take Instagram-worthy photos against the backdrop of this natural monument.
- We will hike to the charming Surb Mariam Astvatsatsin Church located on the picturesque slopes of the volcano.
- We will ascend all three peaks of Gutanasar and enjoy lunch with a stunning view of the surrounding mountains and Yerevan.
- We will see vibrant flowers and gather medicinal herbs.
- We will observe beautiful obsidian stones, also known as volcanic glass, which you can take as souvenirs from the hike.
- We will admire views of the nearby peaks of Atis, Aralayr, Aragats, and Ararat.

- At the end of the trip, we will have a delicious dinner with hot soup, coffee, and tea.
